Image Description: “Changing fates” is the term biomedical scientists use to describe the process of redirecting some adult pluripotent stem cells into becoming other types of cells. My “Changing Fates_004” digital print shows modified digital videomicrograph image data of adult stem cells extracted from my blood, changing into beating cardiac cells “in vitro” after seven days. These cellular changes occurred in response to the introduction, on the third day in culture, of my scientific collaborator’s proprietary chemical mix – a form of contemporary Alchemy that may have the potential to materially modify or reconstruct our bodies.
