My video: “HOST” has been accepted to play at the Albuquerque Museum of Modern Art on September 19th as part of the ISEA 2012 “Machine Wilderness” programme.
i’m now working on the follow up movie: “a space to cross” that includes footage of aggressive bee responses – see the stinger?
Cynthia Pannucci, Founder/Director of ASCI has just announced that the New York Hall of Science has requested extending the show: Digital2011: The Alchemy of Change til 4th March, 2012. This means that my digital print: Changing Fates_004 can still be seen in the gallery as well as on-line: http://www.asci.org/index2.php?artikel=1168
Cynthia is currently looking for other venues that may want to host this exhibition later this year.

at the “Virtual Anatomies” Symposium @ The University of Queensland next week

I will be discussing my early use of scientific imaging technologies and and the ways that I have re-interpreted scientific data from an artistic perspective. I will give examples from some of my artworks and art/science collaborative projects.

This will be ASCI’s 13th International Digital Print Competition/Exhibition, to be held at the New York Hall of Science, September 3, 2011 – February 5, 2012
Image Description: “Changing fates” is the term biomedical scientists use to describe the process of redirecting some adult pluripotent stem cells into becoming other types of cells. My “Changing Fates_004” digital print shows modified digital videomicrograph image data of adult stem cells extracted from my blood, changing into beating cardiac cells “in vitro” after seven days. These cellular changes occurred in response to the introduction, on the third day in culture, of my scientific collaborator’s proprietary chemical mix – a form of contemporary Alchemy that may have the potential to materially modify or reconstruct our bodies.
Unique synergies will emerge from this panel discussion on the habitat as theorists and artists speak to the ways in which their current research raises insights into contemporary modes of technologically mediated inhabitation.

I have recently been awarded an Australia Council for the Arts Artists with Disabilities Grant in support of my collaborative project with Professor Antonio Paolini

This is a Research and Development project that aims to profile the impact of deafness on the hearing impared in everyday life by increasing public awareness of the issues encountered when a vital sense like hearing is damaged.
The project will include a hands-on research phase in Prof Paolini’s labs, leading to the creation of a variety of prototypes for interactive artworks with which the public can engage.
